Our forum has been available for many years. In September 2014 we decided to switch it to read-only mode. calculating acreage

I am trying to determine th acerage of a piece of land. The measurements are 54.88, 226.44, 178.84 and 132.9. Anyone know? Thanks!

A four-sided figure isn't rigid. It is not uniquely determined by the four sides, so the area can't be calculated without more info..

If this is from a plot of land, do you have the compass bearings of the four sides. You need that, or the angles of the corners, or information on the diagonals.

Couldn't you treat it as a Trapezium? Do .5(Top+Bottom)Height

ie: .5(54.88+132.9)178.84 =16,791.2876 sqft
and .5(54.88+132.9)226.44=21,260.4516 sqft

added together 16,791.2876 + 21,260.4516 = 38,051.7392 / 2 = 19,025.8696 sqft

Since there are 43,560 sqft in an acre that area would be 19,025.8696 sqft / 43,560 sqft = .4367 of an acre.

Anyone back me up on that way of figuring square footage?
