Dear convert-me.com forum visitors,
Our forum has been available for many years. In September 2014 we decided to switch it to read-only mode. Month after month we saw less posts with questions and answers from real people and more spam posts. We were spending more and more resources cleaning the spam until there were less them 1 legitimate message per 100 spam posts. Then we decided it's time to stop.
All the posts in the forum will be available and searchable. We understand there are a lot of useful information and we aren't going to remove anything. As for the new questions, you can always ask them on

I'm trying to rationalise the energy input needed for a radiant floor system. The specs for the system rate it as heating at a rate of 100 watts per square metre.
Trying to convert that into BTU's to determine the furnace is turning my head to Swiss cheese.
Total area of the floor is 320 square metres.

I think You're going about ths backwards...
The first think you'll need to calculate is the volume of the room, and use an energy guide rating to determine how many btu it will take to heat that volume. Try this one:

You can then convert btu's to Joules (1 joule = 1 watt/sec to get your requirements.
