Our forum has been available for many years. In September 2014 we decided to switch it to read-only mode. Month after month we saw less posts with questions and answers from real people and more spam posts. Convert each unit:
5.3 oz/yd² x 28.349523 g/oz x 1 yd²/0.83612736 m² = 179.7 gsm
The conversions given probably have more precision than you need, but each is exact.

The conversion from Oz/sq yd into Grams/sq meter is as below:
There are 28.3495 grams in one ounce, that is True. But that is also where people usually tumble and get wrong results. I, myself faced such a person recently who was so confident about his calculation and was into fabric business since very long and argued about this, as we always had difference in our calculations and his. So here is solution:
There actually are 28.3495 grams in 1 ounce but here we are discussion about a relation of grams / sq meter into Ounce / sq. yard.
1 Oz per sq/ yard = 33.9057 grams / sq. mtr.
5.3 Oz / sq. yard x 33.9057 = 179.70 gsm
